Venchi is the dessert of choice and honestly has the best gelato in Rome from what I have tried. I wouldn’t listen to what people say about Venchi being touristic or industrialized gelato etc…this Gelateria has many customers for a reason and there is always a line from opening to closing for a reason. This will be more of a guide to Venchi rather than a review! I’m going to go over all of the flavors I’ve had. At the end of the post there is a subscriber only section. It is free to subscribe, but I tell my subscribers the secret to skip the line and a gallery selection of photos! I’ll be updating this more as I go, I forgot the taste of some flavors. Also they have crepes and gelato shakes I need to try still, so stay tuned! Also let me know how you all like the subscriber only sections, I’m always open to feedback 🙂

Sizing: Get the grande. For Americans and gelato/icecream lovers, always get the grande (large). This gives you four flavor choices. In my opinion, it also gives you the most value for your money. Also the gelato is so good you’ll regret that you stood in line and ordered anything but a large (trust me). I have seen people the small, but I don’t know who would have this size and be satisfied besides boys or babies. Even small children would prefer a medium size. Don’t be one of those and lie to yourself “I’ll be satisfied with just a small,” no you won’t lol. It’s like saying I’m not that hungry and then eating all of the fries you were supposed to just pick at.
Cup or Cone? Either is good. I would say it depends what mood you’re in. I switch off both. Lately I’ve been getting the cone.
Toppings: I usually get the niocciola latte with nougatine. Sometimes they will get this wrong and give me the dark chocolate with nougatine, milk chocolate with nuts, etc. Either way all of them are fine, but the milk chocolate with nougat is perfect. Also I would say the toppings depend on the flavors you plan on getting because I won’t get any toppings if I get flavors that contain chocolate. I skip the whipped cream. The chocolate filled bottom of the cone tastes good, but I live without it.

Crema Venchi: Pronounce it with me “crem-ma ven-key. Some people will say “ven-chi” but the ch is pronounced as a “K” sound. It’s a decent flavor. I used to get this, but lately I’ve been opting for other ones. It tastes similar to fior di latte and mascarpone, so normally if I get one of those (I usually do), I don’t get crema Venchi
Cremino: Cremino has a delicate flavor. For those of you who like physical chocolate but not the flavor, cremino is your answer. There is a chocolate topping on top that has a fudge consistency and the gelato itself is like a light hazelnut. I’ve been getting this flavor lately.
Fior di Latte: I love milk flavored icecream. Back in the US I like going to different shops and trying milk and cereal icecream. The fresh milk flavor is simple, but I find it better and more delicate than vanilla.
Fragola (Strawberry): Strawberry at Venchi is a must. I always get strawberry as one of my four flavors. It is refreshing and perfectly sweet. Also you can taste the simplicity, no dyes or artificial flavorings.
Limone: This tastes like frozen lemonade. Really refreshing and the acidity balances out the sweetness of the chocolate. I would probably get this flavor more during the summer months. It also tastes really good with strawberry- almost like a strawberry lemonade! This is what the Mandarino should’ve tasted like but they failed.
Mandrino: This is too sour and tastes like orange medicine. Skip it.

Mango: If I’m feeling a bit thirsty or crave mango, I will also get mango. It is also really good but loses to strawberry because I love strawberries. However, I used to get mango as my second flavor the first few visits.
Mascarpone/Mascarpone and Figgi: A surprising flavor. They normally have this alone, but lately they’ve had a mix of mascarpone with fig. I tried both. I’m not a fan of fig, so I prefer the mascarpone alone. All three pair really well with the milk chocolate though, just make sure to have a bottle of mini wine on hand. Make shift charcuterie LOL.
Melone: Eh…skip it. Actually if you grew up on those melona icecream bars then you would like this. It is a delicate flavor.
Nocciola: They put real hazelnuts in here! It has a more delicate taste than other Gelateria’s. I enjoyed the lighter flavor over a strong peanut-y flavor. I would get this again if I wanted a more heavy/hearty gelato over a refreshing flavor.
Pistacchio: It’s pretty good. I just have to be in a really specific mood for it.
Rose Lampone: This tastes like soap lol. Skip it
Stracciatella: I like stracciatella. I just usually don’t order this flavor because I already have the chocolate on my cone or in the cup with the nougatine. The chocolate drizzle chips are not too sweet and don’t ruin the texture of the gelato. It is relatively easy to chew or if you aren’t psychopathic, it melts nicely.
Vanilla: Pretty good. This is elevated from the fresh milk flavor. I would say it’s richer and a very good vanilla. However, I like my vanilla icecream to be more solid 9 (think haggendaz).
Payment: the total cost for two grande cones with chocolate and nougatine is about 11.76 euros. I am a venchi loyalty member and I am a gold tier member (15% off). I would say the grande is the best deal because you get four flavors. Plan to spend 10-15 euro for two depending if you want a simple cone or to add a chocolate tip at the bottom/whipped cream etc.. This is a gelato that is more on the pricey side, but a must have when in Italia!
