Occasion: Late Night Winter Desserts!

Impressions: Here’s a great dessert recommendation! If you have a sweet tooth, are tired of the gelato/tiramisu/desserts in the center of Rome and want to go to a place where the locals (college kids of Rome) go…Matrem is the place. They sell pangoccioli! For those of you who don’t know, Pangocciolo is like chocolate chip brioche bread! It’s lightly sweet and at Matrem, it’s always freshly baked and warm. It reminds me of the Italian version of Japanese milk bread/buns. Lovers of Japanese/Chinese/Korean bakeries like Paris Baguette or 85 degrees would love this! This is a bit out of the way, but easily accessible by getting off at Bologna Metro Line B. It’s been my new go to dessert during the colder weather. I really recommend trying pangocciolo before you leave if you are visiting Rome! It is not a typical dessert that many people recommend, but I don’t give typical recommendations hahahahaha.

5/5 Pangocciolo Semplice (Simple): For those of you who don’t like too sweet/filling/or jsut had dinner so you are too full, this is a good choice. The bread is really soft and pillowy, and the chocolate chips are small and just barely melted. Paolo gets this or Nutella when he feels festive.
5/5 Pangocciolo Nutella & Mascarpone: My personal favorite. I’ve been getting this every single time! Plain Nutella is too rich and sweet for me. Nutella and Mascarpone is perfect because the mascarpone is refreshing, light, and delicate and tones down the Nutella. I’ve been tempted a few times to ask for just plain Mascarpone, so I will update you when I get tired of my favorite.

Other Flavors: They also have white chocolate, pistachio, ferro rocher, and kinder flavors for those of you who are fans of kinder chocolate!
Payment: The ones with fillings will cost you 2.50. Not a bad price at all! I think the simple ones are 1.50 but you can also buy them by the half dozen or dozen and they will package it for you nicely! This is a gem in my opinion and still a great way to have an amazing dessert on a budget. There is also seating outside and two tables for 4 people each inside.
